A Blessed 4th

We have in this country a very broad spectrum of beliefs about our nation, and this is common. One thing that seems to underlie all of them, however, is that living here – at this time – is better than living elsewhere. If you don’t hold to that view, a change of location would seem reasonable, maybe even necessary for your mental health. But there are many who don’t like our nation and don’t want to leave – instead they want to see it change into something they do like. If that is the case, unless you choose to overthrow the current system by force, you have to convince others of your position. Please remember, you cannot change peoples minds by belittling them. This only succeeds in making them more stubbornly hold onto their views. Getting others to change their views works best when you calmly present alternate views that have merit – and to do so respectfully. This takes patience and effort. Calling them names might feel better emotionally, but it typically ends up creating less of chance for change.

I love all people – because all people are created in the image of God – and because of that I will also treat them with respect….even if they disagree with me. I am glad, for your sakes, that you are here in this country for the same reason I am glad I am here. I think it is awesome here – not perfect – but awesome. I am free to speak, to write, to live where I want, to eat what I want, and to spend time with people that I care about. As long as I follow the laws of the country and am not hanging around others who do not, I have no fear of the government. As long as I am kind and respectful towards other, I have no fear of other people here either. And, as long as I have my unshaken faith that God is with me and for me, I have fear of Him either. To live without fear is a blessing. I want that blessing for all of you. Happy 4th, all!!
