Refraction (Bent Thinking) #82
- Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy – improperly asserting a cause to explain a cluster of data. Refutation: The cluster may well be the result of chance, in which case it was not caused by anything. Example: The number of cases of disease cancer in Metropolis is greater than would be expected by chance. Metropolis has a factory which has released amounts of chemical agent X into the environment. Therefore, agent X causes cancer.
