Refraction (Bent Thinking) #71

Tu quoque (“you too”, appeal to hypocrisy) – the argument states that a certain position is false or wrong and/or should be disregarded because its proponent fails to act consistently in accordance with that position. Refutation: Valid arguments are valid no matter who presents them. Example: Aloysius: “Betsy, you claim that marijuana is not safe, yet you smoked it in at a party last weekend.” Side Note: Not acting consistently does not negate the logic of your argument, it makes it such that the hearer does not listen or take it seriously… therefore the sound logic is lost anyway.
