Refraction (Bent Thinking) #50

Argument to Moderation (false compromise, middle ground, fallacy of the mean) – assuming that the compromise between two positions is always correct. Refutation:  Although finding middle or common ground for practical purposes of working together has value, this does not mean that middle position is logical or sound…it just works for now. Example  –  Adam: Betty, you believe that abortion is wrong in all cases, while many believe it is right in all cases, so why can’t you compromise and support candidate Smith who promotes legislation to allow for abortion but only for rape and incest and the life of the mother in the first trimester, Side Note: For most who have deeply held convictions, social approval or political expediency are of little or no value.
